We are pleased to announce that Devon Air Ambulance Trust is our chosen charity of the year 2017.
Devon’s two Air Ambulances are state-of-the-art Eurocopter EC135s. They are both owned by the Charity, who need £5.5 million each year to keep them flying.
The charity works closely with the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) who deploy the helicopters. Although the paramedic aircrew are employed by SWASFT too they are seconded and the Charity makes a contribution also. The Charity, together with the other Air Ambulance charities under the SWASFT umbrella fund a specialist HEMS desk (helicopter emergency medical services) with a team of six, based at the 999 control room. They monitor tasking and despatch the aircraft in order to optimise availability for the patients most in need.
Because Devon has so many remote areas, we feel keeping the air ambulance flying is extremely important. They have saved so many lives and we want that to keep happening.
You will find collection tins for Devon Air Ambulance next to each of our tills and we will be running special fundraising events throughout the year. Alternatively you can donate now from the comfort of your home by clicking this link.
